WARNING – Solar flare to hit South Africa today.

A M9-class solar flare erupted on the Sun’s northern hemisphere at 3:49 UT yesterday (23 Jan 2012) which is expected to hit Earth today (24 jan 2012) at around 2pm to 3pm. It is estimated that the flare will hit particularly South Africa at this time because of the low magnetic field at this part of the earth. South Africans are warned and advised to stay out of the sun from 2pm to 3pm today.

There is no confirmation as to what the extent of the damage will be but it is estimated that the flare could cause massive disruptions in communications, electricity, the internet and of course mobile communications.

This image shows the flare being emitted from the Sun. The Sun is approximately 190 times bigger than the Earth and is about 150 million kilometers away. It is ONLY through the mercy of Allah that HE has kept the Sun at this distance for us. Even if the Sun were to move as much as a meter towards the Earth, life as we know it would cease to exist.

SOPA and PIPA. How does it affect us?

Be the first to post a comment.| 19 people viewed this post.

What do you think of the SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act and Protect IP Act) blackout? Wikipedia, Reddit, Mozilla, Google, and many others protest proposed law by the U.S. I went onto Wikipedia last night, 18 January 2012 and saw the blackout. It said that it will be for a full 24 hours from today, January 18th, starting at midnight ET. I asked around and not many people know of the internet strike.

So what is SOPA and PIPA? The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), also known as House Bill 3261 or H.R. 3261, is a bill that was introduced in the United States House of Representatives on October 26, 2011, by House Judiciary Committee Chair Representative Lamar S. Smith (R-TX) and a bipartisan group of 12 initial co-sponsors. The bill, if made law, would expand the ability of U.S. law enforcement and copyright holders to fight online trafficking in copyrighted intellectual property and counterfeit goods. Presented to the House Judiciary Committee, it builds on the similar PRO-IP Act of 2008 and the corresponding Senate bill, the PROTECT IP Act.
The originally proposed bill would allow the U.S. Department of Justice, as well as….. Click here to Read More

Snowflake Easy Mix (cake mixes) Haraam

1 Comment| 238 people viewed this post.

I was speaking to my sister about this and that and as I was about to end my conversation when I mentioned that I was going to bake using my Snowflake easy mix whereupon she told me that it was haraam. I was shocked as the packaging suggested nothing haraam unless the colourant (which had E150 in brackets beside it) and raising agents were the haraam ingredients in the muffin mix.

E150 is responsible for the caramel colour that makes unhealthy goods look so appetizing. I didn’t think it was haraam because according to my knowledge caramel colouring is derived from products such as lactose (from milk), dextrose (usually derived from corn), starch hydrolysates (from corn or wheat), or malt syrup (in general derived from barley). So I didn’t find anything to make the muffin mix haraam, however Mu’allim Rashaad Sallie sent me the following information from the Jamiatal Ulama Gauteng…

SNOWFLAKE PRE-MIXES ARE HARAAM
In response to a query sent to the manufacturers of Snowflake pre-mixes the following reply was given:

“Dear XXXX
Herewith the information you require
We were advised that all the flavoured premixes are alcohol based and
they contain Whey….. Click here to Read More

What a hectic week it has been, and it’s only Wednesday! Ummul Hasanaat Newcastle closed today while the last day for Ummul Hasanaat Johannesburg is tomorrow. Congratulations to all the students who worked hard. Thank you to all the parents, for all the Aashura gifts, it is very much appreciated. Madrasah closed with the parents meeting and the handing out of reports, certificates and trophies today.
The heat was unbearable today. Those who fasted can tell you about it. Allah accept our efforts. Thank you parents for attending the meeting, I know it was a scorcher even with the fan on. This shows your caring and concern for your child’s deeni education.A big thank you to Mu’allim Rashaad for designing the certificates. We also honoured Mu’allimah Fahdia with a certificate of appreciation. Her efforts are valued.

Jazaakumullahu Ahsanal Jazaa to everyone who has been part of Ummul Hasanaat. Let’s continue to work in our triangle of teacher-parent-student. When there is harmony in that, great students emerge.
Please forgive us for our shortcomings and mistakes. May Allah keep us united as a loving family.

P.S May Allah grant Mu’allimah Kaashifa shifaa kaamil, she has not been well for a while, yet….. Click here to Read More

Aashura 1433 AH

I have been meaning to add a post on Aashura since last week but the exams amongst other things has kept me so busy. The kids at Ummul Hasanaat Newcastle will have sharing day tomorrow Inshā’Allah, while the teachers will be fasting… LOL. No seriously, the children in the joy and spirit of Aashura are having their sharing tomorrow and teachers indeed will be fasting. We have to fast in the hot days as I like to say “If the price is cheap, everyone will buy”. So the price is high this year for Aashura… what’s the price? The hot weather here in SA. At least we have food to break our fasts with. So not a really high price. May Allah accept our good deeds. Ummul Hasanaat Johannesburg has delayed their sharing day so that teacher and student may enjoy their sharing day alike.

This day of great historical significance where Allah accepted the repentance of Sayyidina Aadam (‘Alaihis-Salaam) after his exile from Paradise; where Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala saved Sayyidina Nooh (‘Alaihis-Salaam) and his companions in the ark; where Allah extinguished the fire in which Sayyidina Ibraheem (‘Alaihis-Salaam) was thrown by Nimrood; And where Allah Subhanahu wa….. Muharram 1433 AH

Oh how the year has passed yet again. The question to ask is “Have we improved spiritually in the past year?” Have we come closer to Allah? Have we become better to our fellow man or are we still chasing after the deceptive dunya with her poisonous alluring charms? It is the eve of Muharram here and I have made my resolution to be a Mu’minah, to reach greater communion with my Rabb, to touch more hearts and lives, to not ever miss tahajjud, to increase in Qur’aan… My list is loooong!

Let us start the new year with prayer and fasting and being good to each other.
We urge you to not make bid’ah (innovations) such as “Read this special salaah for the beginning of the month, like 2 Raka’ats salaah, recite Surah Fatihah & 30 times Sura Ikhlas…” PLEASE THIS IS NOT SANCTIONED BY THE AHLUS SUNNAH WAL JAMAA’AH.

Abu Hurairah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reported that Rasoolullah (Sallallahu ‘Alayhi wa Sallam) said “The best fasting after Ramadhaan is fasting Allah’s month of Muharram.”
The phrase “Allah’s month”, connecting the name of the month to the name of Allah signifies the importance of the month.
It was proven that Rasoolullah (Sallallahu ‘Alayhi….. Click here to Read More

I have been a bit delayed with this post as it is exam time here. There’s barely time to do anything else but have exam fever. Without further adieu, Madrasah Ummul Hasanaat has been informed that 112 good quality Saudi printed Arabic Qur’aans (with Indo-Pak script) and 25 Hindi/Arabic/Urdu translations of the Noble Qur’aan (by Dr. Muhsin Khan and Dr. Taqi ud Din al Hilali) has reached Bihar, India much to the delight of our brother who called for help, Zia ul Haque. Alhamdulillah!

Qari Abdul Hamid Panoli passes away

1 Comment| 105 people viewed this post.

Growing up I remember asking my father, “Where is daddy going?” And he would answer, “Kerk Street”. As I grew older I heard wonderful true stories about the spread of Tableegh in South Africa, Johannesburg especially.
Many of them of how Qari Abdul Hamid Dhudhat (rahimahullah) of Panoli village, Bharuch district, Gujerat, India started it all in Kerk Street Masjid in Johannesburg.

It was in the late 1960′s that Qari Abdul Hamid (rahimahullah) came to South Africa. At that time Islam was not as it is today. Very few men and women could be identified as Muslims should one pass by and people knew little about Deen and acted on even far less than what they knew. The loving Qari Abdul Hamid (rahimahullah) began befriending with young men from Johannesburg and encouraging them towards coming closer to Allah and spreading Deenul Islam (tableegh). Although he knew no English at the time, his warmth allowed for the language of hearts to prevail. The families of these young men were most hospitable to him, particularly the Dadhabhai, Bismillah, Patel and other families.
Qari Abdul Hamid (rahimahullah) resided in Johannesburg at Kerk Street Mosque where he would befriend and encourage the working men to….. Click here to Read More

It is obligatory for every adult Muslim male and female to recite the Takbeeraat of Tashreeq after every Fardh Salaah performed (with Jama’ah/congregation or individually) from today i.e.the Fajr of the 9th of Dhul Hijjah to the ‘Asr of the 13th of Dhul Hijjah. The Takbeeraat should be recited once only.
Men should recite this Takbeer audibly whilst females should do so silently.
