Shaikh Maher al Mueaqly visits South Africa

A prominent Imaam of the Masjidul Haram in Makkah, Shaikh Maher Bin Hamad Al-Mueaqly is here in South Africa. The Imaam who has led salaat-ut-Taraweeh in the years 1428 AH (2007), 1429 AH (2008) and 1430 AH (2009) will lead salaah in various masaajid and Islamic centres with his melodious recitation of the Glorious Qur-aan.

Born in 1967 (1388 AH), Shaikh Maher Al-Mueaqly in Madeenah, Saudi Arabia although his parents were not originally from Madeenah. He completed hifdh at a young age in Madeenah and then earned a professional degree in Mathematics and later worked as maths teacher.

He went back to Makkah to complete his Islamic studies an in 1425 AH, he completed his master degree in Shariah from the Umm al Quraa University, Makkah. There he taught in the school of Balaat. In Makkah he became a renowned speaker and began preaching once again. After becoming loved by the people he was chosen to become an advisor to Prince Abdul-Majid in Makkah.

He began to teach Qur-aan in Makkah before he began teaching at King Abdullah Saood University. Just before Ramadhaan 1426 AH, he was given the good news that he would lead Taraweeh in Masjidun- Nabawi. In 1427 AH, he had the opportunity to do so again. After that he was moved to Makkah and began to lead taraweeh from the first day of Ramadhaan 1428 AH in the Holy Haram with Shaikh Abdur-Rahman As-Sudais.
Since then he leads the Taraweeh in Ramadan every alternate night. He also regularly leads Fajr and Maghrib salaah in Masjid al-Haram.

Shaikh Maher is married with four children, two boys and two girls.
His recordings are loved by many. Everyone has a favourite Imaam and he is one of mine. I can’t wait to hear him on Tuesday Inshaa-Allah!
