It is obligatory for every adult Muslim male and female to recite the Takbeeraat of Tashreeq after every Fardh Salaah performed (with Jama’ah/congregation or individually) from today i.e.the Fajr of the 9th of Dhul Hijjah to the ‘Asr of the 13th of Dhul Hijjah. The Takbeeraat should be recited once only.
Men should recite this Takbeer audibly whilst females should do so silently.
Please note that “Allaahu Akbar” may be recited twice or thrice in the beginning.
Also called Takbeer al-Muqayyid: From the day of ‘Arafah until the ‘Asr prayer of the 13th day of Dhul-Hijjah, one should make Takbeer after every obligatory (fard) Salaah. Ibn Abee Shaybah relates that ‘Ali (RadiyAllahu ‘anhu) used to make the Takbeer beginning after the Fajr prayer on the day of ‘Arafah, until after the ‘Asr prayer on the last day of at-Tashreeq.” [(Saheeh) by Shaikh al-Albanee in al-Irwa. Related by Ibn Abee Shaybah in al-Musannaf]
As regards to the actual wording of the Takbeers, the following have been reported from the Sahaabah (RadiyAllahu ‘anhum):
1. ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ood (RadiyAllahu anhumaa): “Allaahu Akbar, Allaahu Akbar, Laa ilaaha illa Allah, Allaahu Akbar, Allaahu Akbar wa lillaahil-Hamd.” [(Saheeh) Irwaa al-Ghaleel (650), Daraqutne, Ibn Shaibah] (Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, There is none worthy of worship except Allah. Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest and to Allah belongs all praises)
2. ‘Abdullah ibn Abbaas (RadiyAllahu ‘anhumaa): “Allaahu Akbar, Allaahu Akbar, Allaahu Akbar wa lillahil-Hamd; Allaahu Akbar wa-ajal, Allaahu akbaru ala mahadana.” [(Saheeh) – Bayhaqee (3/315)] (Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest and to Allah belongs all praises. Allah is the Greatest to that which He has guided us to)
3. Salman (radhi allahu anhu) : “Allaahu Akbar, Allaahu Akbar, Allaahu Akbar kabeera.” [(saheeh) – Bayhaqee (3/316)] (Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest)
