Anas (radiallahu anhu) reports : “Once when Ramadhaan began, Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam) said: “A month has verily come upon you, wherein lies a night better than a thousand months. Whoever misses such a night has indeed been deprived of all that is good and none is deprived of it, except he who is really unfortunate.”
I hope that we have gained some goodness and are not deprived of good of this blessed night to our laziness and nafs. May Allah forgive us for our weakness and shortcomings. There is still another odd night to come which may be Laylatul Jaa-izah (Night of Prize Giving), the night before Eid which is also auspicious.
‘Ubaadah Ibn Sawmit (radiallahu anhu) reports that he asked Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam) about Laylatul Qadr, He (Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam) replied “It is in Ramadhaan, during the last ten days on the unevenly numbered nights, either 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th or the last night of Ramadhaan. Whosoever stands in worship of Allah (‘Azza wa Jall) on this night with sincere faith and with genuine hopes of gaining reward, his previous sins will be forgiven. Among the sighs of this night is that it is a serene, quiet, shining night, neither hot, nor cold but temperate as if a moon is shining clear and no meteors are shot at the Shayateen on that night. It lasts until the break of the dawn. Another sign is that at morn, the sun rises without any radiant beams of light, appearing rather like the moon in its fullness. On that day, Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala) prohibits the Shayateen from rising up with the sun.” (Shaykhul Hadeeth Moulana Muhammad Zakariyyah rahimahullah)
Shaykh Ibn al-’Uthaymeen (rahimahullah) writes in Fataawa Ramadhaan – Volume 2, Page 852, Fatwa No. 841; Fataawa ash-Shaykh Muhammad as-Saalih al-Uthaymeen – Volume 1, Page 563… “From amongst the signs of Laylatul-Qadar is that it is a calm night and the believer’s heart is delighted and at peace with it, and he becomes active in doing good actions, and the sun on the following morning rises clearly without any rays“.
And Allah knows best.
“How was the night for you?”, my brother would ask on each odd night. We would give our views and at the end conclude “And Allah knows best”.
