Ramadaan 1433 AH comes to an end

We are fasting our 29th fast in South Africa as we began fasting on 21 July 2012. I can’t believe that this blessed month has passed us so quick, as does life pass so quick. How have we spent this month?

Ka’b ibn ‘Ujrah (RadiyAllahu ‘anhu) relates that the Rasoolullah (Sallallahu ‘Alayhi wa Sallam) said, “Come near the minbar (pulpit)”. And we came near the pulpit. When he ascended the first step of the pulpit, he said, “Aameen.” When he ascended the second step, he said, “Aameen.” When he ascended the third step, he said, “Aameen.” When he descended, we said, “O Prophet of Allah (Sallallahu ‘Alayhi wa Sallam), we have heard from you today something which we never heard before.” He said, “When I ascended the first step, Jibra’eel appeared before me and said, ‘Woe to him who found the blessed month of Ramadaan and let it pass by without gaining forgiveness.’ Upon that I said: Aameen. When I ascended the second step, he said, ‘Woe to him before whom your name is mentioned and he does not read Salaat (durrod) on you.’ I replied: Aameen. When I ascended the third step he said, ‘Woe to him in whose presence his parents or either one of them attains old age, and (through failure to serve them ) he is not allowed to enter Paradise.’ I said: Aameen.” [Bukhari]

Ustaadh Noumaan Ali Khan gives a wonderful example describing what we get out of Ramadaan. He likens our spirituality to this – Two people have a patch of land. Both have fertile soil, both irrigate it with equal amounts of water, both use fertiliser, both have equal sunlight. The only difference is that one planted a seed in the ground and the other didn’t. Who will yield something? The one who planted something but of course!
Similarly if we went into Ramadaan with the niyyah (intention) of gaining taqwaa (consciousness and fear of Allah) with ihtisaab (hope of gaining reward and forgiveness of our sins), then we would live accordingly for the rest of the year. If we never made a strong resolve to change our lives and gain nearness to Allah, then all we really did achieve is hunger and weariness.

We cannot expect for Allah to answer our parayers in a falsh when we need Him yet we are never there to serve Him. Yes He is not in need of us but it behoves a slave to serve His Master who owes us nothing but has promised us so much for doing so little.

And if we were spiritually weak and did not spend all our time as we should have in this blessed month, all is not lost. Allah is Most Merciful of those who show Mercy. Turn to Him and He will surely forgive us. Tonight we can still ask Allah for forgiveness and freedom from the fire. We must have regret for our wrong and for not taking this opportunity that comes but once a year. We hope that we will be around to witness another beautiful month, but we must prepare next time around so that we can have a better and more spiritually uplifting Ramadaan. We pray that Allah gives us life to be a part of this moving and auspicious time next year InshaaAllah.

We say farewell to you Ramadaan with tears in eyes. Here is a poem posted by KING-slave of ALLAH ! from islamgreatreligion.wordpress.com

As you take leave of us, we sadly say:
“Farewell O month of Ramadan.”
As you take leave of us, we sadly say:
“Farewell O month of Kindness.”
As you take leave of us, we sadly say:
“Farewell O month of High status.”
As you take leave of us, we sadly say:
“Farewell O month of Salvation.”
As you take leave of us, we sadly say:
“Farewell O month of Divine Integrity.”

When this month of fasting arrives, all
true believers become ecstatic.
They all say in one voice: “We shall all
enjoy worshipping our Creator Most High
with consistency.”
The true believers are overjoyed at the
arrival of this month, their hearts
becoming filled with the invocation of the
 Almighty’s name.
They free themselves from wrongful
innovations and infidelity.

You are on your way and they all profess
their sadness.
Oh! Alas! How negligent we have been. Oh
woe unto us! We have lost forever, the
 benefits of this auspicious month.
Alas! Alas! We have been blessed to meet
with you, O month of Divine Light, after an
entire year.
Every heart is abounding in the
remembrance of the Creator, Most High.
Day in and day out, Divine Light descends
on us in the days of your visit.
Because of
you, the true believers were joyous
continuously.
You are now taking leave,
and they are all feeling a sense of grief.

O illuminating month, you are truly a
month full of strange bounties.
The Creator Most High is pleased with the
 true believers.
You are making every heart your captive.

Loving you is an experience on its own.

How is it at all possible for us to calculate
your status?
You have brought the pleasure of the
Almighty Creator on us.

The sounds of Taraawih could be heard everywhere.

We were avid in our worship day and
night.
You were so full of strange bounties, O
 month of good qualities.
Every true believer’s heart was alive
because of you dear month of Ramadaan.
Why should we not lament your departure?
May the Creator Most High show us your grace again, quickly.
