In protest of what it calls a religion “of the devil,” a nondenominational church in Gainesville, Florida, plans to host an “International Burn a Quran Day” on the ninth anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks.
The Dove World Outreach Center says it is hosting the event to remember 9/11 victims and take a stand against Islam. With promotions on its website and Facebook page, it invites Christians to burn the Muslim holy book at the church from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
“We believe that Islam is of the devil, that it’s causing billions of people to go to hell, it is a deceptive religion, it is a violent religion and that is proven many, many times,” Pastor Terry Jones told CNN’s Rick Sanchez.
Jones wrote a book titled “Islam is of the Devil,” and the church sells coffee mugs and shirts featuring the phrase.
Muslims and many other Christians including some evangelicals are fighting the initiative- CNN.
So what should we Muslims be doing? Yes we should ask Allah to protect our Qur’aan. This is a tragedy indeed. The most important thing is firstly for all Muslims to unite. Not just for this cause, but generally to unite our hearts that we may truly feel as if we are all family and that if one hurts, we all hurt. Then supplicate to Allah as a united Ummah. The power of du’a is great if we only but knew. We can probably not stop this in Gainesville as freedom of speech (as they refer to this abominable crime of Qur’aan-burning) is a 1st amendment right of every American but how we, as Muslims live makes a big difference. We should always be living the Qur’aan. It talks about Rasoolullah (SAW) being the perfect example “uswatunn hasanatunn”, yet we will still imitate other nations when we have the best at our feet. Let us make the effort, however small… Nothing goes unchecked by Allah ‘Azza wa Jall. These things happen as a test for us Muslims of all ages and denominations, to become more united, to increase in taqwa, to be good examples to all especially to those whom Allah has not given the priceless gift of Imaan and not to take our deen for granted. May Allah protect His Kalaam from any mischief and destruction.
