His name in Jahiliyyah days was Abu Amr, but when he accepted Islam the noble Prophet (Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam) called him Abdur Rahmaan – the servant of the Beneficent Allah.
Abdur Rahmaan, the son of Awf, son of Abd alharith, son of Zahra, son of Kilab, was one of the first eight persons to accept Islam. He did so even before the Prophet (Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam) entered Daar al Arqam (Arqam’s) house to meet his faithful Companions(Sahaabah). When Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu anhu) preached Islam to him together with Uthmaan ibn Affaan (radhiyallahu anhu), Zubair ibn al Awaam (radhiyallahu anhu), Talhah ibn ‘Ubaidullah (radhiyallahu anhu) and Sa’d ibn Abi Waqqaas (radhiyallahu anhu), he declared the shahaadah to the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam), only two days after the Abu Bakr’s (radhiyallahu anhu) embracing Islam. He is known for his generosity in Islam.
From the time he embraced Islam till he passed away, he was a splendid model of a great believer, which made the Prophet (Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam) count him among the ten to whom he gave glad tidings of inheriting Paradise (al Asharah al Mubassharah). This also made ‘Umar (radhiyallahu anhu) elect him among….. Click here to Read More

‘Abdullah bin Mas’oud (radhiyallahu anhu) was of the tribe of Banu Huzail. When he was still a youth, not yet past the age of puberty, he used to roam the mountain trails of Makkah far away from people, tending the flocks of Qurayshi chieftain, Uqbah ibn Abi Muayt. People called him “Ibn Umm Abd” meaning the son of the mother of a slave. His real name was ‘Abdullah and his father’s name was Mas’oud.
The youth had heard the news of Muhammad, Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam) who had appeared among his people but he did not attach any importance to it both because of his age and because he was usually far away from Makkan society. It was his custom to leave with the flock of Uqbah early in the morning and not return until nightfall.
One day while tending the flocks, ‘Abdullah (radhiyallahu anhu) saw two men, middle-aged and of dignified bearing, coming towards him from a distance. They were obviously very tired. They were also so thirsty that their lips and throat were quite dry. They came up to him, greeted him and said, “Young man, milk one….. Click here to Read More

Early in the morning, Abu Dardaa (so named as he had a daughter named ad Dardaa) awoke and went straight to his idol which he kept in the best part of his house. He greeted it and bowed in homage to it. Then he anointed it with the best perfume from his shop and adorned it with silk which a merchant had brought to him from Yemen.
When the sun was high in the sky he left his house for his shop. On that day the streets and alleys of Madeenah were crowded with the followers of Muhammad (Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam) returning from Badr. With them were several prisoners of war. Abu Dardaa went up to a Khazraji youth and asked about the fate of ‘Abdullah ibn Rawaahah (radhiyallahu anhu).
”He was put through the most severe tests in the battle,” “but he emerged safely…”
Abu Dardaa was clearly anxious about his close friend, ‘Abdullah ibn Rawaahah (radhiyallahu anhu).
Everyone in Madeenah knew the bond of brotherhood which existed between the two men from the days of Jahiliyyah, before the coming of Islam to Madeenah. When Islam came to….. Click here to Read More

Salmaan the Persian (radhiyallahu anhu) relates:
I grew up in the town of Isfahaan in Persia in the village of Jayyan. My father was the Dihqan or chief of the village. He was the richest person there and had the biggest house.
Since I was a child my father loved me, more than he loved any other. As time went by his love for me became so strong and overpowering that he feared to lose me or have anything happen to me. So he kept me at home, a veritable prisoner, in the same way that young girls were kept.
I became devoted to the Magian religion so much so that I attained the position of custodian of the fire which we worshipped. My duty was to see that the flames of the fire remained burning and that it did not go out for a single hour, day or night.
My father had a vast estate which yielded an abundant supply of crops. He himself looked after the estate and the harvest. One day he was very busy with his duties as dihqan in the village and he said to me: “My son,….. Click here to Read More

The time is 3 A.H, halfway between Madinah and Uhud, the thousand strong Muslim army led by Nabi (SAW) dismounted from his horse Sakb. He was fully dressed for battle. A turban was wound about his helmet. He wore a breastplate beneath which was a coat of mail which was fastened with a leather sword belt. A shield was slung across his back and his sword hung from his side.
As the sun set, Bilal (RA) called the adhan and they prayed. Rasoolullah (SAW) then reviewed his troops once more and it was then that he noticed in their midst the presence of eight boys who despite their age were hoping to take part in the battle. Among them were Zayd’s (RA) son Usamah and Umar’s (RA) son Abdullah, both only thirteen years old. Rasoolullah (SAW) ordered them all to return home immediately. Two of the boys however demonstrated that they were able fighters and were allowed to accompany the army to the Battle of Uhud while the others were sent back to their families.
From an early age, Abdullah ibn Umar (RA) thus demonstrated his keenness to be associated with

ZAYD IBN THABIT(R.A.)
We are in the second year of the Hijrah. Madinah the city of the Prophet is buzzing with activity as the Muslims prepare for the long march southwards to Badr.
The Noble Prophet (SAW) made a final inspection of the first army to be mobilised under his leadership to wage Jihad against those who had tormented the Muslims for many years and who were still bent on putting an end to his mission.
A youth, not yet thirteen, walked up to the ranks. He was confident and alert. He held a sword which was as long or possibly slightly longer than his own height. He went up to Rasoolullah (SAW) and said:
